LOVELIGHT is The Light Center’s global network in support of the children and grandmothers of Africa.
Lovelight is responding to the AIDS orphan crisis in South Africa. We believe that service is two-way street with all of us being teachers and learners, in ways that are empowering to all people involved.
Our Service supports the wholeness in all people rather than striving to rescue or fix anyone.
Lovelight’s focus is on supporting the caregivers as they provide for the needs of the children.
Lovelight’s main task is to provides volunteer training and support for volunteers who travel to South Africa to enhance the work of South African programs. It facilitates an international exchange of healing wisdom and resources to create a more sustainable future for the children. The people of South Africa are amazing, resilient people and American volunteers stand to receive as much or more than we could ever give. Since 2003, TLC has been sending volunteers to create a foundation for its projects there.
~GOGO: Grandmothers Organized in Global Oneness—Lovelight volunteers have offered numerous classes in Healing Touch to hospice and homecare workers, and the gogos (grandmothers) who are caring for the children who have been orphaned or become vulnerable due to the pandemic. ~Skill Building and Mentoring—Volunteers have also lent computer, crafts & permaculture gardening skills. Each of us shares whatever skills we have and learns more that we can ever teach! ~Currently our volunteers are working in partnership with our good friends at the Novalis Institute who serve as our mentors in CapeTown. Novalis’ capable staff provide orientation for Lovelight volunteers and help to organize projects that our volunteers can support. Volunteers have been visiting various child care settings and help out in a variety of ways. Also, we are assisting an awesome group in Riviersonderend (about 2 hours drive from Cape Town) in the creation of a community center there. This multi-faceted project promises to create skill building, tourist attractions and a gathering place for the village. In Riviersonderend, Lovelight volunteers have helped with the creation of an active sewing and quilting group, the start-up of a community garden project and Healing Touch training.
See “Updates from our Volunteers” for specifics about recent volunteer activities.
Lovelight is exploring new models for collaboration among grass roots projects. It is our belief that great changes come from ordinary people creating new ideas together. Working together works miracles! |
